Commissioners hear update on County Manager recruitment, accept budget award

Reno, Nev. June 18, 2019. The following report highlights several important agenda items from the Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting:

1. Update on national recruitment process for new Washoe County Manager. Commissioners heard an update from Human Resources Director, Patricia Hurley, regarding the national search to replace former County Manager, John Slaughter, whose last day was June 14, 2019.

Washoe County Human Resources requested proposals from four leading executive search firms, and after reviewing the proposals, the firm of Ralph Andersen & Associates was selected to conduct the national search for the next Washoe County Manager.  Washoe County Human Resources and Ralph Andersen & Associates will return to the board on July 23, 2019 with an additional update and timelines regarding the recruitment.

Assistant County Manager, Dave Solaro, was appointed on June 11, 2019 to serve as Interim County Manager while the national recruitment is underway.

2. Washoe County receives nationally-recognized award in Financial Reporting for 37^th consecutive year. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence to Washoe County in Financial Reporting for the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence is not only nationally-recognized, but is the highest form of achievement in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Washoe County has been formally acknowledged for receiving this prestigious award for the past 37 consecutive years.

This is a direct reflection of the dedication of our staff to provide integrity, transparency and serve as the best possible steward of the resources we have been entrusted with,” says Christine Vuletich, Assistant County Manager.

3. Board of County Commissioners accept the following donations:

• Donation to the Washoe County Regional Parks & Open Space and May Museum in the amount of $9,239.85 and an in-kind donation valued at $25,568 from various businesses, organizations and individuals of Washoe County, including the Wilbur D. May Foundation.
• Donation to the Washoe County Human Services Agency, Senior Services to accept an ongoing estate donation in the amount of $17,640 through December 2039 on behalf of the estate of Evelyn Brey to benefit the growing senior population.
• Donation to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office for Special Operations and the Community Engagement Office in the amount of $646,917.09 on behalf of the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (DRMO) for military surplus equipment.
• Donation to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office HASTY Team from the Truckee Fire Protection District in Truckee, California  in the form of an Airboat and trailer valued at $20,000 to be used in Search & Rescue missions.
